You Always Knew Cats Were Into Kniting Didn't You?

Some lovely pics taken at Amber's house featuring an array of her projects. I just had to snap some pics of her children too!

Steampunk Jewelry

Well I did say that other crafty things might find their way here. These were inspired by some Steampunk Jewelry selections I discovered on Etsy. I'd typed in time machine for the fun of it (and also 'cause it's right there on the homepage and I thought"why not") and there were all these cool pieces of jewelry that people had made from old clocks and watches... cogs out and all. Of course these are not melded together like those but I had two old watches, I had loose stones and bits of junk jewelry, and by golly I had a leftover tube of superglue gel just begging to be used up. So this is the result. OK, so I wont be selling them on Etsy but I think they're rather nice. :)

80s Flashback

Well they're finished! All done up in blue and purple just like her Dalek... from the very same yarn in fact. She likes them very much. Since we got the inspiration from the Kidd Video cartoons we joked that if she sneezed she'd get super strength like Glitter the fairy.

Well we got together at Amber's this time around. It was great fun, Kristi may have given me a lead on the perfect yarn for dolly clothes (due to it's dyeablity) and we all got a nice review of yarn over (tricky little buggers those). Oh, I suppose other that the bear and legwarmers I'm working on for my niece I ought to show my latest dolly dos. the 1st is another little sock monkey miniature, these little guys are quite addictive to work on. And of course my star knit hat...

Sweaters and Sock Monkeys

Well, I finally got a pic of Leroy in his seemless sweater. He's grown of course so the sleeves fit him perfectly but the waist had to be extended.

The second pic is of my Blythe girl with her new sock monkey. I came up with the idea a while ago and finally did something about it.

Update!

Well I finished the legwarmers I was working on. In all honesty I only wore leg warmers once back in the 80s... I'm not entirely sure why anyone ever considered them sexy. It's probably due to that Flashdance thing. But I certainly think they will be useful when I'm out in service, it's getting a mite nippy out there.

Oh yes, these were knit on the red Knifty Knitter loom to 21 inches. Then I circular knit 6 rows of ribbing at the ends in size 8 needles so the end wouldn't roll up on me. :)

Knitting at Amber's

Well, I showed up late but I made it. Here's a few pics of current projects. I'm trying to make a bear for Savanna but I'll put up some pics of that when I'm further along. ;)

Knitting... with Balls!

I had a great time last night. Lots of knitting of course (I'm making good progress on my 2nd Dalek) and Spaceballs! I hadn't seen the movie in quite a while and I loved every minute of it, thanks for putting up with my general weirdness guys.

Well it's finally letting me post pics today. As you can see I've got some photos from previous sessions that I was finally able to show... plus just adorable pics of Dusty moving into a Barns & Nobel bag. Speaking of which thank you Kristi for bringing us there, it was great fun. Loved the amigurumi toys... so cute.

Ack!!! I know we knit less in the summer months but there have been several knitting sessions and I haven't remembered my camera at any of them. I considered putting up a pic of Barn's and Nobel (we went there to knit on Fri.) but I don't think we'll quite go there. I do have some pics of the popcorn popper bag (and Archie) that Amber was nice enough to take but right now the website wont let me upload these either. Ah well... I've updated the knitty link to the latest issue instead. As Grover would say... I am so embarrassed.

Sweater Vest, and More Red Lace

Well we haven't had a meeting as such, but Kristi did come by and show me how her lace was going...

And I've finished Savanna's sweater. It's more of a sweater vest now, I had her try it on several times and she said she wanted the sleeves short. She also wants a hat to match it but with some blue added as well. Seems like she plans on keeping me busy.

And Then There Were Sheep, and it was good...

Well it was pretty cold out side for meeting this time, luckily Amber planned ahead and had slippers with loom socks for us to wear (dig that fancy fur at the top -- yo). And I finally got a picture of one of her lovely cravat scarves. Very clever and very handy with all this wind we seem to be having. No way mother nature is blowing that one away. I'm thinking of making one myself.
And of course we have Kristi's wonderful lacework (I love the red on this), I'll also have to get pics of her wall work at her place of work for all to see. Don't ask me when this will happen, but hopefully soon. Oh and much thanks to Kristy for introducing us to Ravelry. Hopefully we should all be able to peruse it soon. :)

And Here It Is... The Raglan, Top Down, Seamless Sweater

Well I finished Leroy's seamless sweater yesterday. I gave it to him today but I totally forgot to bring the camera with me to get a pic of him in it... oh well, John can probably send me one sometime. It worked out pretty nicely I think. No seams (of course) and the only bit of strangeness was that the sleeves were a bit long on him (but then I got the measurements 2nd hand over the phone). It was no biggie, we just rolled them up and he looked quite cute. I hope to make one for Savanna next.

A Phone Case... The Tale of my First Cell Phone

Well, Aaron and I broke down and picked up a cell phone yesterday morning. We're going to be heading off to California next week so we thought it would be handy. It's one of those prepay dealys so no worries about a contract... nicey nice. Anyway I went about creating a case for it, not a cozy as it has exposed buttons and needed to be stiff, thankfully the phone was settled in a plastic shape in the packaging and that worked just fine. A bit more plastic cut from the container by tracing the phone shape worked well for the lid... then I just knit a cozy for the case. I finished it today- went real quick - and I put on the Velcro closer this morning. Ah, if all knitting projects went that fast. Oh, the KIT I ironed on is for Keep In Touch... but you guessed that didn't you you clever little monkey.

I also recently stopped by Value Village where there is an abundance of Threads magazines for about 50 cents each. I found one with instructions for a seamless raglan sweater knit from the top down. It was an article by Jean Dickinson from 1988, found some additional info about it on the net here. I got measurements from my niece and nephew from their mother over the phone and I'm currently working on a raglan sweater for Leroy. Looking good so far, and it goes fast. :)

Enter the Turtle...

Well, this is my second mosaic knit... wait a minute, I know what your thinking. It looks a lot like my first. Well that's because Aaron saw me knitting the coat for Archie and said he liked the pattern, and the colors, and even the thickness, he just thought it should be a hat. Well it's finished now and we've dubbed it the turtle. It's thick, it's warm, and best of all if Aaron wants to walk Archie they can match... though I don't think that was his intention. Insert evil laugh here.

Sideways Knit Raw Silk Vest

It's finished, my first ever sideways knit and my first time working with raw silk. It was quite fun. I think if I ever use raw silk again I'll use metal needles as the plastic did get a bit stiff. It did force me to use a looser gadge which could have been a good thing.

If anyone's curious about the pattern you can find it here...

http://www.ample-knitters.com/mid-xpress.html

I found the perfect hook clasps over at Joann's, They are a copper color and have a sort of deep burgundy stone set in which I think works quite well. I may try to redye the vest a deeper color later as my first dying attempt did not go as dark as I planned. No worries, the darker trim I used is synthetic (I felt safe doing this as the raw silk doesn't seem to shrink in the least) so it shouldn't pick up too much of a color change if I redye the raw silk bits. Overall I'm quite happy with it, now I need to wear it with a proper dress shirt. The tee was just to try it on now and then while I was working on it.

We've Got Balls!

Well we had our first official yarn exchange... a good way of perhaps finding some new yarn without spending any money and getting rid of yarn you have no plans of using, I suppose we could call it a yarn swap. I think most of the yarn brought in found new homes. I still have the leftovers in a bag, hmmm.... my nice Mickia has been curious about my loom knitting, perhaps I can set her to work.

Here are pics of Kristi's tasty new concoctions and a new and wonderful ascot scarf by Amber...
